Outreach

Outreach for October
This month we continue to support St. Paul’s food bank, and our own breakfast program.

Breakfast program
156 breakfasts were served this past Saturday morning. We were blessed to have lots of volunteers, in the kitchen and in the hall. And some of our volunteers, on both Fridays and Saturdays, are from the local neighbourhood and not members of St. Jude’s. Our next breakfast is Saturday November 7th from 9 - 10:30 am.
St. Paul's Foodbank
Laura was really encouragd by our donations on 11th October: Well done, St. Jude’s!!

Fundraising and Social

Men’s Lunch
Derek has arranged it for Tuesday10th November, at Formaggios. All parish men are invited, and why not bring a friend?
Legacy Evening – Everyone is invited to a Legacy Evening on October 29th at 7:00 pm. We will enjoy refreshments, unveil a piece of art from the estate of Myfanwy Matthews, hear from our choir, and welcome Michelle Hauser from the Anglican Foundation who will talk about planned giving.

Breakfast Program 5 k Run / Walk - it was a beautiful fall day this past Sunday when 16 of us walked 5 km to raise funds and awareness for those challenged by food insecurity. An additional 4 volunteers helped with registration, room set up, food and beverages. Congratulations to the Lost Walkers of St. Jude’s for taking home the trophy for the top fundraiser team for our church. We are receiving donations for this appeal until the end of the month. So far, we have well surpassed the $13,000 raised at last year’s event. Thanks to all for your support- in prayers, funds, and labour!

Nearly New Shop: The Nearly New Shop now has fall and winter clothes available. Children to adult 2X at very reasonable prices. Open Tuesday 10 to noon and Saturday 9 to noon.
NB We are still needing new men or women volunteers.
ACW News - Thank you to our faithful volunteers who helped with meat and rhubarb pies. If you would like to like help us with the next batch of apple and rhubarb pies, please contact Glenda at 519-951-8154 or [email protected] . Men and women are welcome.
Festival Choir.
Festival Choir rehearsals continue on Thursdays at 7,30 pm. We are learning a Christmas Cantata called “The Mystery and the Majesty” by Joseph M. Martin. Please join us as we learn this festive music!
The Annual Christmas Bazaar is November 14th
Donations of attic treasures, Christmas decorations, crafts, jewellery and preserves are needed. Please bring your items to the office between 9am and 1pm Monday through Friday. Volunteers will also be needed for the bazaar, so please look at your personal calendars and reserve some time to help with this wonderfully festive fundraising event. A successful part of the Bazaar is THE BOTTLE TABLE, a note from Dennis Johns: As many are aware, we have had a very successful, and fun, initiative at the annual bazaar for the last several years. This involves folks picking numbers to win one of many bottles of libations. This year's bazaar is on Saturday, November 14th. Hence we are in need of donations to this table again this wear. The most popular donations are bottles of wine, but we also need everything else too (ketchup, mustard, pickles, olive oils, vinegars, condiments, sports drinks, sodas - almost anything that can be consumed that comes in a bottle). I am hoping you will support this fundraising initiative again this year; bottles can be dropped off to the church office during weekly business hours or on Sundays when you attend church.
Alongside Hope Christmas Cards Are now available:
This year's Christmas cards evoke the miracle of Jesus’ birth under a dark night sky. Just as the weary world rejoiced 2,000 years ago, we too feel the thrill of hope as we celebrate Christmas. Choose from two watercolour illustrations: In “O Holy Night,” a caribou admires the Northern Lights shimmering over a cozy log cabin; in “Our Dear Saviour’s Birth,” Joseph and Mary admire the newborn King. Order cards by contacting Anslim Hameed at (416) 822-9083 or toll-free at 1 (877) 936-9199 ext. 228, or by email at [email protected] , or contact him with any questions. A minimum donation of $25.00 is suggested for a package of 12 cards.

Learning Together

Introducing the Gospel of Mark - Plan to attend this study on four Sundays, November 1st to 22nd, 11:45-12:45 (bag lunch), led by Father Kevin. In the cycle of Sunday readings, we read through the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke on an annual basis. Starting on the first Sunday of Advent this year, we will launch into Mark, the earliest of the gospels to have been written. The gospel of Mark is interesting in that it makes no mention of Jesus’ birth and describes his post-Easter appearances as an afterthought. The objective of this study is to engage with Scripture in a conversational way to help us hear the gospel with deeper understanding throughout the coming year. Please make it a priority through November!

Stewardship Thought: Love One Another – Jesus calls us to love one another and to bear witness to his love in the world. On St. Jude’s Day, we celebrate a community seeking to do just this: through worship, welcome, learning, pastoral care, and service to our neighbours. As we begin our five-week financial appeal, Love, Richer Than Gold, we are invited to consider how our financial gifts can express the love we have received from Christ. Gold has its value, but love is our true treasure – and together, we can make that love visible in all we say and do.

Let's Celebrate

Happy birthday! This week to Walter H. (20th October), and Sandra K, (23rd). Hope you both have happy celebrations.
