Welcome to Rev. Canon June Hough! – We extend a warm welcome to June Hough who is celebrating and preaching at 8:30 & 10:00 am on Sunday. June is well-loved at St. Jude’s and we are delighted that she is available in Father Kevin’s absence.

Outreach for August
In August we concentrate on the St. Paul’s food bank, and our own breakfast program. Also, as back to school is around the corner, it’s time to think about backpacks and school supplies. See Cindy Warner for full details of backpack and school supply needs.

From Cindy Warner: It is that time again, Back To School Supply Collection. We had such a great response we are going to do it the same way. You just need to take an envelope from the Outreach Board and add your cash donation then place the envelope in the collection plate. Thank you again for your support, we will be taking all the filled backpacks and supplies to Lord Elgin PS.

St. Paul's Foodbank
Our next Sunday for donations to St. Paul’s Food Bank is Sunday 13th September. Don’t forget, you can bring things to the church any day, not just Sunday.

Help needed: Another refugee group in the city has sponsored a mother and young child. They have enough furniture but need the following: plates, cutlery, pots and pans, towels, sheets (queen) Please let the office know if you wish to donate. 519-660-6198 or [email protected]

Men’s Lunch is returning, with lunch planned for Tuesday September 15th at 12:30 at Formaggios. Bring a friend!!

Breakfast program
This is an early call for participants and volunteers: our Run/Walk fundraiser with St. John the Evangelist. It will take place on Sunday October 18th. The Canada Helps website is now active so go ahead and register your self or your team at

Rally Sunday – September 13^th – After the 10:00 am service stay for hotdogs and corn-on-the-cob. You bring the salad (potluck style). Learn about what happens and St. Jude’s and offer your abilities to serve!

You are invited to a Parish Council Open House – On Wednesday, September 16 at 7:00pm, you are invited to an open meeting of St. Jude’s Parish Council in the narthex. Refreshments will be served. You are welcome to stay for all or part of the meeting, which normally ends at 8:30pm.

Why not join the choir? – A saint of the church once said, “Those who sing pray twice.” Why not give it a shot? If you’d like to join the choir this fall, please speak to Christina after church today. Choir practices will resume in September and there will be a social event for all choir members – veterans and novices alike - after church on September 20^th. Stay tuned for details.

Advance notice reminders:
1) Mini-putt. The St. Jude mini-putt social is getting closer! Please join us for a fun game or two on Sept. 19th, 3:45 pm at Tin Cup, at 1324 Adelaide St. North. We had a very good turnout of enthusiastic putters last year. This is an all ages event. Please invite your friends. Putters provided, of all sizes including for children. T here are many ball colours to choose from. Fun and creative holes. Lovely landscaped grounds. Cost to play is $14.99 + tax for one or two
games (18 holes each). We will have a casual pizza dinner with soft drinks at the church immediately after we finish playing. Vegetarian and gluten free pizza options. Learning Together

Learning to Live Free: Six Stories from the Wilderness– Starting on September 13^th we will begin a new six-week preaching series based on the passages from Exodus designated by the Revised Common Lectionary. We will consider questions like, “Why do we sometimes prefer familiar bondage to unfamiliar freedom?” And, “What does a genuinely free life look like?”

The Pilgrim Course –This autumn, sign up for one or all six-session courses led by Father Kevin, Tuesdays from 7:00-8:30 pm. Explore the Creeds (starting Oct 6^th – in person), the Eucharist (Nov 17 – online), and then two more courses in the new year. Make your spiritual health a priority! Sign-up sheets for the Creeds course will be available soon.

The Heart Sees Further – Each Wednesday, Father Kevin offers a brief spiritual reflection viewable on St. Jude’s Facebook page. The current series is called “An Introduction the Devout Life” based on a book by St. Francis de Sales. As you view each reflection, please hit “like” and “share.”
