Welcome! Sunday we welcome Nunu Zhang as our guest musician. Nunu is a pianist and music educator in London.  She is a graduate of the music program at Western.  She has experience with the Anglican liturgy and will be providing music for the 10 am services today and August 9 while our music director, Christina Willatt, is on vacation.

Outreach

Outreach for July
In July we concentrate on the St. Paul’s food bank, and our own breakfast programme. Also, even though school has just started the summer break, it’s time to think about backpacks and school supplies.
St. Paul's Foodbank
Our next Paul’s Place food bank Sunday is Sunday, 11th August. Donations were still down in July, so can we make a better effort for August, when it’s harvest time for many things?
Breakfast Program
Once again, the St. Jude’s breakfast team are getting ready to host our community at our bimonthly breakfast. Along with the hot porridge, grilled cheese and ham sandwiches, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate, we’ll offer a safe cool place to visit with friends and relax over a cup of coffee. For the children who come, we have colouring books and crayons on hand to keep them busy while their parents visit. If you have some books you aren’t using, we’ll be happy to take them off your hands. Adults like to colour too. And it’s a great way to manage stress and anxiety strategy.
Our next breakfast is this Saturday August 1st from 9 to 10:30 am. All are welcome.

Fundraising and Social

Back to School Backpack Campaign – Cindy Warner is coordinating our annual Back to School Backpack Campaign again this year. If you would like to donate items to this project that benefits elementary school students in need in our community, please speak to Cindy. If you would like to donate money, indicate this on an envelope in the offering plate or dropped off to the office. Last year we filled a record number of packs!

Advance notices!!
1) Hold this Date! Please join us for a fun game or two of mini-putt on September 19th, 3:45 pm at Tin Cup, on Adelaide St. a short distance from the church. There was a very good turnout of enthusiastic putters last year. This is an all ages event. Please invite your friends. There will be a casual dinner at the church immediately after we finish playing. Cost to play is $14.99 + tax for one or two games (18 holes each). Putters and balls will be provided. Suggested contribution to the cost of the meal will be provided closer to the event. We will likely have pizza again this year. Please contact the office at [email protected] if you plan to come, or if you have any questions. Thanks and have a great summer!
2) Pig Roast 2026, on Saturday September 26th, 6pm, Tickets are $25.00, which includes roasted potatoes, coleslaw and homemade pie. Further details on the poster in the Narthex.
3) 5K Run/Walk
Planning is officially underway for the 5K Run/ Walk with St. John's! The date is Sunday October 18th. This event is a great fundraiser for our breakfast programme that serves the most vulnerable members of our community. To make this year's race a success, we are looking for sponsors. We are asking for your help to expand our reach. Please take a moment to think about your own network. Do you know local business owners, vendors, individuals or community leaders who value giving back? Please share this opportunity with them. By becoming a sponsor, they will gain local visibility while directly supporting life-changing food security programmes right here in our neighbourhood.
The three levels of sponsorship are;
Gold. $5,000 +
Sliver $2,500 +
Bronze $1,000 +
If you or someone you know is interested, please reach out to Glenda Hayward at the office at [email protected], or any member of the Breakfast Programme team for more details.
Thank you for your continued prayers, generosity, and support!
The St. John's 5K Race Team.

Learning Together

Sunday’s Sermon – “Keep the Fire Burning!”

In a world filled with constant noise and endless demands, Jesus' example of withdrawing to a lonely place offers an invitation we urgently need. This sermon explores the spiritual gift of silence and solitude—not as an escape from life, but as the place where God renews our hearts and rekindles the flame of faith within us. Through Scripture, story, and practical wisdom, we are reminded that if we are to serve faithfully, we must first learn to "keep the fire burning."

The Heart Sees Further – Each Wednesday, Father Kevin offers a brief spiritual reflection viewable on St. Jude’s Facebook page. The current series is called “An Introduction the Devout Life” based on a book by St. Francis de Sales. As you view each reflection, please hit “like” and “share.”

Exploring the Epistle to the Ephesians – St. John the Evangelist has invited St. Jude’s to join an online study of Ephesians on Wednesdays, 7:00-8:00 pm, through the summer. These sessions are facilitated by Tom Mawlam, the licensed lay reader at St. John’s. Please sign up in the narthex.

Education for Ministry (EfM) Open House EfM is a small group experience focussed on how faith connects and is lived in everyday life. One of EfM’s face-t0-face mentoring groups meets at St. Jude’s on Tuesday mornings. Interested in learning more? Attend the upcoming virtual Open House on August 26th. Reach out at [email protected] to get a link.

The Pilgrim Course – Last year, a group of 14-18 people participated in the “Follow” stage of The Pilgrim Course. This autumn, we will start into the “Grow” stage, with four six-session courses led by Father Kevin on Tuesdays from 7:00-8:30 pm, that explore the Creeds (starting Oct 6th – in person), the Eucharist (starting Nov 17 – online), and then two courses in the new year, the first will be online and the second in person. Make your spiritual health a priority! Sign-up sheets for the Creeds course will be available soon.

Let's Celebrate

Happy birthday! This week to Lucy U., Sherry S. And Linda H., all on 28th July, and Bob K., 1 st August. Hope you all celebrate well.

One Final Note:

Landfill diversion- did you know that Goodwill takes used fabrics like clothing and linens that are no longer suitable for wear or other uses? Please be a good steward of our planet and drop any of these items off at your local Goodwill to avoid filling up our landfills. Thank you.
